ReflecMedia Products

Key your shots with ReflecMedia's Portable LiteRing™ and Chromatte Screen.

Chroma Key System from ReflecMedia
Reflecmedia's Chromatte fabric is designed to work in conjunction with a LiteRing. The LiteRing features Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) arranged in a circular casing that is positioned in front of the camera lens. This provides all the light required to illuminate the Chromatte background for chroma key production in the studio or on location.

Portability
With the new Chromaflex, setting up a studio in an office or even a storeroom couldn't be easier. With a flick of the wrist and placing the LiteRing™ on the camera, you can be shooting within minutes and with a minimal amount of lighting. No hot studio lights to work under. For the cost of a days studio hire, you could keep your Chromaflex kit for life and film day after day.

How it works
Reflecmedia's Chromatte fabric is designed to work in conjunction with a LiteRing. The LiteRing features Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) arranged in a circular casing that is positioned in front of the camera lens. This provides all the light required to illuminate the Chromatte background for chroma key production.

The LiteRing connects to the camera with a specially designed adapter ring, similar to those used for matte box mounting, which is attached to the inner thread of the lens. The LiteRing is then placed on to the adapter and simply locked with a single screw. This enables users to quickly release the LiteRing in between shots, or change from a green to a blue ring based upon their chosen keying color.

We have taken the blue or green color away from the fabric and completely removed the need to separately light the background. The ability to change the background keying color in seconds cannot be achieved any quicker - no need to hang a different drape or repaint the studio walls! Tungsten, HMI and Fluorescent lights can be large in size, expensive to power and uncomfortable to work under. Typically you require thousands of watts to light absorbent chroma key fabrics, whereas the LiteRing output of around 10 watts provides all the light required by Chromatte.

By relocating the color and the light into one camera-mounted device, we have significantly reduced the set-up time and overcome many of the difficulties associated with conventional chroma key.

The LiteRing is available in both green and blue, and in three sizes to fit different size cameras. Each size of ring has a series of adapters to ensure maximum compatibility with camera lens sizes. Further custom adapters and fixing mechanisms are available.

Small: 72mm with adapters for 72 | 62 | 58 | 52 | 37 | 30 lenses
Medium: 112mm with adapters for 105 | 95 | 94 | 86 | 82 | 80 | 77 | 72 | 67 lenses
Large: 147mm with an adapter to fit 127 lens

Clasp Adapter - Custom made for high end lenses that do not have internal filter threads

Matte Box Rail Adapters - Allows you to attach the ring to a rail system and place it in front of the lens without having to attach it to the lens.

Chromatte Fabric

Chromatte is a fabric designed specifically for use as a background for chroma key production. Unlike conventional chroma key fabrics that are usually blue or green in color, Chromatte is grey to the eye in ambient light. The fabric contains millions of tiny glass beads that act as reflectors, returning any light shone on them back to it's source.

Chromatte is covered with millions of 'SateLITE Dish' reflective beads, which enable the fabric to be used at acute angles from the camera lens and in low lit conditions. Chromatte drapes and panels are available in standard sizes or can be custom manufactured to fit almost any environments.

Standard Studio Drape Sizes
Desk Shoot 8.2' x 8.2'
Small Studio 13.1' x 9.3'
Wide Studio 16.4' x 9.3'
Studio 16.4' x 13.1'

Basematte
Basematte is intended to be used specifically on the floor and will even further expand the company’s Chromatte capabilities. Following an increasing demand from customers to have products for head to foot keying, Reflecmedia developed Basematte which is the Chromatte fabric with a rubberized backing. This prevents the product from slipping, enables it to be rolled up (and is crease free when unrolled) and, when placed against a curtain of Chromatte, provides the user with an easy to key ‘Infinity Studio.’

Chromatte Tape
Used for repairs and seams between Basematte and the back curtain.

Chromatte Plug-in

Reflecmedia announce an upgrade to it’s acclaimed chroma key plug-in, Mattenee, offering full support for the latest versions of Apple FCP 5.1.2 and Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 including support for garbage mattes.

As market leaders Adobe and Apple have updated their popular NLEs. Both Reflecmedia and its software developer The Pixel Farm have kept pace with these latest software developments.

Unlike existing software-based keyers most commonly supplied with the parent application, mattenee plug-ins are optimised to work with Chromatte. The custom-written algorithm behind mattenee recognises the narrow color bandwidth returned by Chromatte and therefore simplifies the keying process. The upgraded version has improved functionality to be used with the latest platforms.

Like Chromatte, the Mattenee product range focuses on ease of use. The most popular frustration when keying is not knowing where to start when it comes to perfecting the effect. Mattenee is simple, yet the highly effective controls allow accurate manipulation with minimal effort. The intelligent process automatically senses the LiteRing color and generates an immediate key that is 90% towards the finished result – whilst sophisticated manual adjustment allows you to alter the contrast of the matte, detect and clean any noise and adjust the automatic color settings should you think it is required.

The latest version of Mattenee supports Final Cut Pro 5.1.2 and Premiere Pro 2.
